Corn gluten meal (CGM)

What is corn gluten meal?

Corn gluten meal (CGM) is a high-protein, golden powder produced during corn wet-milling, primarily used as a valuable protein supplement in animal feeds (poultry, livestock, pets) and increasingly recognized as a natural pre-emergent herbicide for lawns to control weed seeds. It's rich in methionine and xanthophylls, adding pigmentation and nutrition, but lacks sufficient lysine and tryptophan for complete protein, making it ideal for boosting energy and amino acids in feeds.

Key Uses:

Animal Feed: Boosts protein and energy in poultry, pet, and livestock diets, adding color to egg yolks and broiler skin.

Constituent elements

Protein: Around 60% protein, mainly zein and glutelin.

Pigment: High in carotenoids (xanthophylls), responsible for its yellow color and providing pro-vitamin A.

Despite the name, Corn Gluten Meal is gluten-free.

Processes

Corn gluten meal can be fed wet or dried, but dried is more common.

Storage

If stored properly, corn gluten meal can maintain its nutritional value for 6 to 12 months; for the best coloring effect, it should be used within 3 months after the production date.
